Review: Alright the Captain - 123. EP
Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 18:21 Alright the Captain - 123. EP (Self Released)
Release Date: August 2009
Alright the Captain’s 123. EP features three tracks recorded this summer, clocking in at just over ten minutes of aural enjoyment. Drawing on influences from 65daysofstatic and Adebisi Shank, and multiplying it with hint of sci-fi, Alright the Captain have created some interesting soundscapes.
Almost entirely instrumental (apart from the cry of ‘Honey Badger, Honey Badger ’ at the beginning of, erm, Honey Badger), the music has an inquisitive nature about it. From the quirky guitar and funky bass of Neo Tokyo, to the expansive instrumentation of Soundtrack Your Death, it’s hard to keep still whilst listening to Alright the Captain’s brand of experimental rock.
Packaged in a handmade cardboard slipcase covered in bubble wrap, this is a creatively presented EP which is a very nice touch indeed, and great to see in a world dominated by digital downloads.
It’s not surprising listening to this EP, that Alright the Captain have clocked up some impressive support slots with bands such as Mono and Jeniferever. 123. is a solid EP, and I certainly look forward to what they do next.
Verdict: 8/10
